Ask Andronica! Happy Valentine’s Day (Massacre)

Happy Valentine’s Day and welcome to my first column here on Werewolf-News.com! In the time-honoured tradition of ‘Dear Abby’, both humans and werewolves alike can seek advice on dealing with the common problems of everyday lycanthropic living. (more…)

Here’s why the “Wolves” trailer is like a chocolate chip cookie

Earlier today Werewolf News reader Rob sent me a link to the official trailer for “Wolves”. I’ve watched it three times now, and I’m not sure how I feel about it.

On one hand the hoariest clichés of the genre are on full parade here. 10 seconds into the first viewing, I was already thinking “MTV’s Teen Wolf with more blood and no Stiles”. But on the other hand, I am an admirer of well-executed craft in virtually any form, and try as I might, I can’t see anything sloppy about the execution here. WWII Paratroopers battle Nazi werewolves in “Deadman’s Land”

Most people assume that the vampire is the natural enemy of the werewolf. I mean, just look at them, with their stupid smirks and crushed velvet. However, my research has shown that the true nemeses of every lycanthrope are the common, garden-variety Nazis, who have the same groundless arrogance and shitty fashion sense as vampires, but with the extra deficit of being genocidal maniacs. New “Ginger Snaps” DVD / Blu-ray artwork from Scream Factory

Scream Factory is on a werewolf blitz. The new art for their upcoming re-release of Ginger Snaps showed up on Facebook this week. I think it’s the best cover yet for the classic Canadian werewolf movie, and if at first you feel that it doesn’t quite have the epic vibe of last week’s Dog Soldiers cover, remember that Ginger Snaps has way fewer guns and way more teen angst than Dog Soldiers. Stick me with Pinny Arcade’s “Killer Instinct” Sabrewulf Pin

Penny Arcade‘s recent venture into the world of collectable / tradable pins (as “Pinny Arcade”, natch) has branched into a few thematic directions, one of which is a tie-in with Double Helix’s Xbox fighter Killer Instinct – specifically, the Killer Instinct Pin Ultimate Edition, a version of the game that comes in a “premium case that doubles as a display for collectible Pinny Arcade pins”. Don’t let Reagan or The Mummy win! Pre-order “The Werewolf of NYC” issue 2

After the success of the first issue, beautiful scratchboard nightmare The Werewolf of NYC is back for a second round on aperfectempire.com. Featuring art & story by Edwin Vazquez, The Werewolf of NYC chronicles the downwards spiral of a troubled (wolf)man in 1980’s-era New York City. (more…)

Classic Teen Wolf cameo in Radio Shack’s Super Bowl commercial

I watched the Super Bowl because Seattle’s just down the road from me, but I didn’t see many of the commercials at the time, because, you know, Canada. However, I did hear that the classic Teen Wolf made an appearance in Radio Shack’s commercial, and when I found the 1980’s pop culture love-fest on YouTube, I wasn’t disappointed.

The “Werewolf Diet” involves neither werewolves nor nutrition

My news feed is blowing up on this subject, so I want to address it real quick. Yes, I’ve heard about the so-called Werewolf Diet – a liquid diet timed to take advantage of the magnetic properties of the moon – and aside from being a nutritionally preposterous fad, it’s a complete misnomer. Is “Supernatural” hunter Garth a werewolf?

After binge-watching six or seven seasons on Netflix last year, my wife and I are confirmed Supernatural fans. It’s shot locally, its writing is wonderfully self-aware, and I’ve always grudgingly approved of how werewolves are portrayed on the show (culturally, if not physically). (more…)
