A blue moon only comes along once in a blue moon, so to complement this month’s, I am highlighting 1973’s Santo y Blue Demon vs Drácula y el Hombre Lobo. (more…)
WEREWOLVES VERSUS THE 1990s: 60+ pages of 90s nostalgia & werewolves

It’s time to spread the news! I’ve been working on WEREWOLVES VERSUS, a twice-yearly digital zine in which werewolves are mashed up with different physical, cultural or ideological themes. Issue 1 is about the 1990s, and it’s out August 18th!
1:4 Scale “An American Werewolf In London” bust from Pop Culture Shock Toys

This monster (pun intended) will be available in late 2016 though Pop Culture Shock Toys and is limited to 800 pieces, 300 of which will have swappable heads with open and closed mouths. Either would make a great Thanksgiving dinner centerpiece (for a cool family only, Robertsons). (more…)
Werewolf, witch & transformation in “Plain Sight” concept posters

I have a new job. As I acclimate, I’ll have less time during breaks to check out things (particularly videos) that I might post here. That’ll change as I get settled in, but for now I’m going to switch into drive-by “check this cool thing out!” mode. First up: three concept posters for Plain Sight. (more…)
Sweet awkwardness & blood in animated short “Steak to the Heart”

Kelsey Canaga, a fourth-year student at DigiPen, recently posted her senior short film “Steak to the Heart“. It’s beautiful, funny, romantic, bloody, and it made my extremely short list “vampires who are okay” grow by one. (more…)
The 1 surprising College Humor post I didn’t immediately close (because: werewolves)

Killer album art for “Wolfmen of Mars vs. The Mangled Dead”

Space werewolves vs. zombie punks. That’s the cover art theme for “Wolfmen of Mars vs. The Mangled Dead”, the upcoming album from Wolfmen of Mars, and if you can dig that, it’s safe to say you’ll be a fan of the band’s whole 70’s/80’s synth horror groove aesthetic. (more…)

Last year, Dawn Brown raised over $20,000 on Kickstarter to produce the first two episodes of a web series based on the House of Monsters stop motion shorts she wrote and directed. The series July 28th on Vimeo, and it look fantastic. (more…)
A headline like “Christopher Lee, Spies, and Werewolf Sex” is worth copying

The Austin Chronicle has an excellent piece on director Philippe Mora‘s experiences in Prague while shooting Howling II: Your Sister Is a Werewolf. He talks about the legendary Christopher Lee, having to explain 1,000 punk extras to a military general, and the challenges of shooting a three-way werewolf sex/transformation scene. (more…)
Syfy’s “Sharktopus vs. Whalewolf” trailer stole three minutes of my life

If you can’t guess what “whalewolf” means, try saying “werewolf” with your tongue stuck to the roof of your mouth. There, you just pronounced the name of a human/wolf/orca hybrid, which is more fun than you’re likely to have watching this movie. (more…)
