Current & upcoming werewolf movies: theatrical & home releases

Note as of 2017-07-07: this page is about a year out of date, but will be getting a HUGE update in the next few days!

Did you lose track of all the werewolf movies coming out lately? I did, and it’s kinda my job to keep tabs on them all! Here’s a cheat sheet to help you keep up on releases and plan your purchases or pre-orders.

2017

  • Underworld: Blood Wars. The Underworld saga continues. Directed by Anna Foerster and starring Kate Beckinsale. Currently in post-production, with a theatrical release planned for January 2017.
  • The Wildness. Stoner ski-bum versus rich-kid werewolves. As of March 2016, in pre-production near Vancouver, Canada. Directed by Marcel Sarmiento.
  • Bad Vibes, starring Elijah Wood. A psychedelic werewolf cult versus “squares” in 1969. Was set to shoot in Austin in October 2015, so it’s probably in post production now.

Hear Chris Rock as werewolf-hunting werewolf in “Broad City” clip

In a clip from an upcoming episode of Comedy Central’s Broad City, Abbi and Ilana spend a day movie-hopping on a pair of scammed passes. Their first stop is A Fang for a Fang, a book-turned-film starring Chris Rock as a werewolf hunter who’s a werewolf himself. (more…)

Scream Factory releasing Howling II on Blu-ray for some reason

In a surprise announcement on Twitter and Facebook, Scream Factory has admitted that they will be afflicting werewolf and horror movie fans with a Blu-ray version of the 1985 “classic” Howling II: Your Sister Is A Werewolf. (more…)

Full Moon Features: Werewolf Rising

As the new year dawns, I’m going to start it off by looking back on one of the handful of new werewolf films that came our way in 2014. (I hope to catch up with the likes of Late Phases, When Animals Dream, Wolves, and especially WolfCop in the months to come.) Great Scott (Howard)! Teen Wolf / Back to the Future mashup t-shirt

Artist and friend of the site Manny Aguilera has combined two of Michael J. Fox’s classic 80’s film characters into one totally rad t-shirt design. “Scott and Marty” features Back to the Future’s Marty McFly rocking a hoverboard, and the actual Teen Wolf surfing a van. Sega developing movies & TV shows based on its IP, including “Altered Beast”

Gaming company Sega and ad agency Hakuhodo DY Group have turned the focus of their joint venture Stories International towards developing films and TV series based on Sega’s intellectual properties. Among the 40 franchises licensed to Stories is 1989 side-scroller Altered Beast, which featured a playable werewolf character and the worst villain name I’ve ever heard. (more…)

The polite werewolves of “What We Do In The Shadows”

What We Do In The Shadows is a horror/comedy/mockumentary by Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement, and as the recently-released official trailer shows, the film focusses heavily on a troupe of Wellington vampires. Other supernatural creatures are involved, including a pack of scruffy but well-mannered werewolves who figure prominently in the film’s third act. (more…)
