Author: Angela Quinton

Angela Quinton is a writer, designer and web developer from Canada. She's also a colossal werewolf nerd who wrote her first werewolf story on her mom's typewriter at age 11. When not writing code or geeking out over werewolf stuff, Angela runs trails, spots trains, and throws rocks at the Pacific Ocean. She lives near Vancouver, Canada, with their lovely and tolerant wife, three feline malcontents and an increasingly terrible dachshund.

In Case You Missed Them: “Ginger Snaps” Sequel Reviews

In the ghastly event that you’ve never seen them, Film Threat‘s Mariko McDonald has posted excellent reviews of Ginger Snaps Unleashed and Ginger Snaps Back, the sequel and prequel to one of the best werewolf movies ever. Seriously, if you’ve never seen the Ginger Snaps trilogy, hie thee to your nearest video rental place, Netflix account or torrent tracker and check them out. You might want to book the afternoon off. These films should be required viewing for any werewolf fan, especially the Canadian ones. And damn it all, if you torrent these movies and discover that you like them, please buy them. Art that you enjoy deserves your support!

“Queer Wolf” Available In Paperback

Queer Wolf“, an anthology of werewolf stories that would undoubtedly make Carrie Prejean frown in prim distaste, is now available from Amazon as a 300-page trade paperback. Sink your fabulously painted claws into this description:

The debut anthology from James EM Rasmussen’s QueeredFiction is an entertaining and varied collection, boasting such talents as Charlie Cochrane and Ginn Hale. Lovers of the lycan will find much to slaver over here: from the werewolf wanabee to the lovers-through-time, to waifs and strays. From the carnal to the violent to the passionate, this anthology will wag your tail, I guarantee it.

Thanks to James for giving Werewolf News the heads-up!

Werewolves Are Boring

Well, no, they’re not, but at the moment there’s a lack of interesting werewolf news out there (unless you care about Twilight, but as we’ve discussed before, Twilight doesn’t actually have any werewolves in it). Expect some new art from around the web in the next few days, and if you have anything else cool and werewolf-related, send it in!

Gladiators V Werewolves to be a Trilogy

According to Screen, Edge of Empires is going to be the first film in a Gladiators V Werewolves trilogy.

Edge of Empire is the first part of epic action trilogy Gladiators Vs Werewolves and is set in AD160 when Rome occupied Britain. It is a story about the discovery of a ferocious tribe of werewolves who are captured and made to fight against the gladiators of ancient Rome.

Icon Film Distribution has acquired UK and Australasian rights to distribute the film, and other territories have either been sewn up as well, or are on the way (no word on North America yet). Production on Edge of Empires starts later this year, and will feature make-up & creature effects by Shaune Harrison.

Three “13 Hrs” Werewolf Costumes Being Designed By Lifecast

It looks like the werewolves in the Tom Felton / Isabella Calthorpe film 13 Hrs. are being designed by Lifecast, a family-run special effects / lifecasting / creature costume studio just north of London. According to this post on the Lifecast site, the Lifecast crew were charged with “creating 3 werewolf costumes in 3 weeks….. from scratch”. Accompanying the post are several photos of Isabella Calthorpe sitting for her head / body cast, which Lifecast will then use to turn her into a “she wolf”. Presumably the other two werewolves mentioned are Felton and Simon McCorkindale. Hopefully we’ll see some completed werewolf effects soon– based on the other work Lifecast has done, they really know their stuff. Thanks to Dig at The Werewolf Café for the link!

Nice Shoes, Scott! Nike Dunk Low Premium “Teen Wolf” Sneakers

Nike Dunk Low Premium - Teen Wolf

Okay, depending on who you listen to this might have been news six months ago, but I’ve never seen them before today and they’re too awesome not to share. Feast your eyes on these Dunk Low Premium Teen Wolf sneakers, courtesy of Nike. I guess these are what Michael J. Fox / Scott Howard would have worn in Teen Wolf if he wasn’t able to grow his own fur. They’re designed in the colours of the Beavers, Scott’s high school basketball team, and they sport crazy brown fur around the ankles and down the tongue. These were released as part of the Nike Media pack, which featured three pairs of sneakers created in honour of classic basketball movies (the other two films that inspired designs were Hoosiers and White Men Can’t Jump). Apparently only 72 were created, but you can still buy them directly from Osneaker.com for $200 US, and there are a few pairs floating around on eBay. Roukas, get your credit card ready! More photos after the break, courtesy of Osneaker.

The Grinder: Multiplayer Monster Hunting for the Wii

The Grinder - Werewolf Encounter

According to this exclusive by IGN, High Voltage Software has a new game planned for next year, titled “The Grinder”. It’s a first-person shooter for the Wii, designed with a multiplayer experience in mind (similar to Left 4 Dead). HVS Chief Creative Officer Eric Nofsinger describes the game’s setting:

…the game takes place in a world we’ve imagined where monsters are real. Vampires, werewolves, and undead are all a part of everyday life and this world has adapted to their presence. Our group of heroes is a sort of the cryptobiological A-Team of going into areas with infestations and killing everything that moves. We’ve definitely been influenced by lots of great horror movies and the grindhouse style is something we’ve tried to incorporate into our characters and storyline.

I’m really excited about a game like this being developed for the Wii, especially after reading about the game engine, the AI and the lovely array of weapons on offer. The IGN article even has a few samples of background music from the game, including a “Trent Reznor meets Ennio Morricone” track called “Werewolf“.

The Grinder is still under development at the moment– apparently they’re still working out some of the online multiplayer options and the single-player campaign details. The plan is for a Holiday 2010 release, but if you want a sneak peak, check out the article or get yourself to E3 next week for an in-person demo.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs Video “Heads Will Roll” – Sweet Werewolf Dance Moves + Creative Gore

Courtesy of NME, here’s the video for the latest Yeah Yeah Yeahs single, “Heads Will Roll”. I’m a YYY fan so I would have liked this video even if it didn’t feature a bad-ass horror-style werewolf with Michael Jackson moves, and the way the (prodigious  amounts of) gore is handled during the video’s second half is dazzling and inspired. Nice intestines, guy!

Heads Will Roll is the second track on the new Yeah Yeah Yeahs record, It’s Blitz.
