Werewolf News reader Drockan Firestorm just emailed me with an update (including a rad poster) for the upcoming Goosebumps movie, starring Jack Black and based on R.L. Stine’s kid-friendly/kid-traumatizing horror books from the 1990’s.
Writes Drockan:
A Goosebumps movie starring Jack Black as R.L. Stine is set to release on October 16, 2015. As you’re certainly aware, the Goosebumps books featured werewolves prominently on several occasions, particularly in the titles The Werewolf of Fever Swamp, Werewolf Skin, Night in Werewolf Woods, and several others, yet their presence is often overlooked in favor of recurrent characters and threats such as Slappy the Dummy and Monster Blood. Fortunately, in the movie poster, we see a werewolf prominently featured top center.
I first heard about this film a few months ago, when word went around that an extended preview had been shown at a convention or publicly-accessible industry event. All I could learn at the time was that it involved a werewolf and other monsters chasing the two lead characters (played by Dylan Minnette and Ryan Lee), who had caused (or were dealing with the consequences of) the release of all the monsters in Stine’s books. Based on a recent interview with Minnette and Lee, it sounds like the creature effects are CG-based rather than practical, but based on what I can see of the werewolf design in the poster, I have no complaints!
This poster is the only officially released bit of publicity so far (although you can tweet with the tag #UnlockGoosebumps to help “unlock” the trailer), and I’m glad to see that the werewolf hasn’t been forgotten. As a kid I must have read The Werewolf of Fever Swamp a dozen times, and I remember being unreasonably frustrated that my local library’s copy of Werewolf Skin was never, ever available.
