Current & upcoming werewolf movies: theatrical & home releases
Note as of 2017-07-07: this page is about a year out of date, but will be getting a HUGE update in the next few days!
Did you lose track of all the werewolf movies coming out lately? I did, and it’s kinda my job to keep tabs on them all! Here’s a cheat sheet to help you keep up on releases and plan your purchases or pre-orders.
2017
- Underworld: Blood Wars. The Underworld saga continues. Directed by Anna Foerster and starring Kate Beckinsale. Currently in post-production, with a theatrical release planned for January 2017.
- The Wildness. Stoner ski-bum versus rich-kid werewolves. As of March 2016, in pre-production near Vancouver, Canada. Directed by Marcel Sarmiento.
- Bad Vibes, starring Elijah Wood. A psychedelic werewolf cult versus “squares” in 1969. Was set to shoot in Austin in October 2015, so it’s probably in post production now.
2016
- WolfCop II, the sequel to the best thing to come out of Canada since poutine. Directed by Lowell Dean, and starring Leo Fafard, Amy Matysio, and Yannick Bisson. Currently in post-production.
- Little Dead Rotting Hood, directed by Jared Cohn and starring Eric Balfour andBianca A. Santos. Zombies, werewolves, fairy tales, and the handsome guy who plays Duke on Haven. Available on DVD in North America.
- Uncaged, directed by Daniel Robbins and starring Ben Getz. Has one hell of a cool poster and a great trailer, but it didn’t fare well in our Full Moon Features. Available now on DVD in North America. In the UK, it comes out March 21st on DVD / streaming under the title “Beast Within”.
- Howl, directed by Paul Hyett, starring Ed Speleers, Holly Weston and Elliot Cowan. If traffic to this site is an accurate measurement of interest, this is the film of the year. With this trailer, it’s no wonder. Available on DVD in North America and DVD, Blu-ray and streaming / download in the UK.
- Crying Wolf, directed by Tony Jopia, starring Caroline Munro, Joe Egan and Kristofer Dayne. Available for streaming and on DVD in North America and on DVD in the UK. Eviscerated by Full Moon Features.

- Howl is available on region 2 (Europe) DVD and Blu-ray from Amazon.
- Blood Moon, directed by Jeremy Wooding, starring George Blagden, Tom Cotcher and Barrington De La Roche. Covered by Full Moon Features. Out on DVD in North America, and available in the UK on DVD and Amazon Instant Video.

“The Order: 1886” and the sad story of Little Bobby Paige

As part of the marketing ramp-up for the PlayStation 4 game The Order: 1886, this short and creepy animation recently popped up. Full Moon Features: Werewolf Rising

As the new year dawns, I’m going to start it off by looking back on one of the handful of new werewolf films that came our way in 2014. (I hope to catch up with the likes of Late Phases, When Animals Dream, Wolves, and especially WolfCop in the months to come.) When approaching a film like Werewolf Rising, though, it helps to know going in that it isn’t going to make a lick of sense or add up to anything. (more…)
The Argentine President Jewish Werewolf Adoption Mixup

News that the President of Argentina adopted a young Jewish man in order to prevent his becoming a werewolf exploded online last week, getting coverage on dozens of news sites despite being a conflation of unrelated tradition and myth. Mixup or not, the story has already given me reason to write what I bet will be the weirdest Werewolf News headline of 2015. (more…)
