First Trailer for Dylan Dog: Dead of Night

Edit: Apparently this trailer wasn’t supposed to get out. It’s been set to “private” by the YouTube user who posted it, the official-looking DylanDogFilms. There were a few other copies re-uploaded, but they’ve been removed via copyright claims. Hey DylanDogFilms, what the hell? I’m leaving this embedded video here just in case it ever becomes public again.

Fans of the original Italian comic book might have mixed feelings about some of the liberties taken with the characters and story, but I thoroughly enjoyed this trailer for the film adaptation of Dylan Dog. The first scene depicts a werewolf getting punched out with a silver knuckle-duster, and I’m okay with this, because the movie looks like a lot of goofy 80’s style monster fun (despite the tiresome “vampires taking over the world” trope). Also influencing me is the fact that Dylan is played by Brandon Routh, who I am currently unable to see as anyone other than Todd Ingram.

“Dead Of Night” Set Report and Photos

For those following Dead of Night, the film adaptation of the 1980s’s comic book Dylan Dog, ComicBookMovie.com has posted some photos and a set report involving a zombie swarm (in which the author takes part).

The world of Dylan Dog is one where supernatural creatures like werewolves, zombies and vampires exist, although they tend to stay hidden from humans. The movie stars Brandon Routh as Dylan, a reluctant paranormal investigator, and Sam Huntington as Marcus, Dylan’s best friend and partner. Anita Briem also stars as a mysterious woman who becomes Dylan’s client, for whom Dylan investigates the murder of her father by what appears to be a werewolf.

Dylan Dog and Groucho Headed for the Big Screen

According to The Hollywood Reporter, production of the werewolf / vampire / zombie film Dead of Night starts today in New Orleans. The makeup effects are being handled by Greg Cannom and DRAC Studios, and if those names ring a bell, it’s probably because they just took home the makeup Oscar for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and they’re doing work on the forthcoming graphic novel blockbuster Watchmen.

Dead of Night is an adaptation of Tiziano Sclavi’s Dylan Dog, an Italian horror comic from 1986. According to Wikipedia,

Dylan Dog is a penniless nightmare investigator who defies the whole preceding horror tradition with a vein of surrealism and an anti-bourgeois rhetoric… Dylan lives with Groucho at 7 Craven Road in a cluttered apartment with a doorbell that screams. His hobbies include playing the clarinet and constructing model ship; he has many phobias, including claustrophobia, bats and heights. Dylan is also particularly susceptible to motion sickness, which is one of the reasons why he rarely travels.

Seems like a lot of dark humour is involved… let’s hope this one survives the transition to the big screen!
