Welcome To HoxfordAs August and the release of Ben Templesmith’s new comic series Welcome To Hoxford draws ever-closer, anticipation is starting to build. Comic Book Resources has posted an IDW press release about the werewolf-themed title. From that press release:

Raymond Delgado is the newest inmate at the Hoxford Correctional Facility and Mental Institution. He has no hope of release, parole, rehabilitation, or decent conversation. Ray hasn’t been taking his medication. No surprises there. On a good day, he’ll tell you he’s Zeus and only bite your arm off–literally. On a bad day, you won’t have time to scream to the prison guard for help.

Templesmith’s previous work has received many accolades. Here’s hoping Hoxford is equally excellent– werewolf media needs the help!

Rob Zombie’s Werewolf Women to Get Their Own Comic

There’s no other information available at the moment —no release date, publisher or artist— but as soon as that info becomes available, you know we’ll post it here schnell. “The Wolfman” Preview at San Diego Comic-Con

If you’re lucky enough to be attending the San Diego Comic-Con on Friday the 25th, check out Hall H at 2:00 PM for a sneak peak at footage from The Wolfman, and a presentation from the film’s official werewolf-creator and special effects god, Rick Baker. From the SDCC site:

The Problem With Werewolf Movies

CHUD.com’s Jon Abrams waxes philisophical in a fantastic essay about why werewolf movies basically stink. He suggests (rightly, in my opinion) that while every genre, sub-genre and niche in film has its diamonds in the rough, werewolf movies are fundamentally lacking.

Every major strain of genre filmmaking, whether it be the war movie or the alien invasion/science fiction movie, the time travel movie or the samurai movie, the Western or the boxing movie or the comic book movie or the vampire movie – all these have their few-and-far-between classics that make sitting through all the more inferior efforts worthwhile. The exception is the werewolf movie.

Lycanthrope Research Case Revisited

If you’re a fan of werewolf special effects, you’re probably familiar with Alex CF’s super-detailed lycanthrope research case– I mentioned it back in April, and it’s still pretty much the coolest piece of three-dimensional art I’ve seen. Apparently a lot of other people dug it too, because he’s made another one.

Werewolves on Facebook

If you’re a werewolf fan and you’re on Facebook, you’ve probably got the Werewolves app installed. I know I do. Forgive me this shameless plug for my own Werewolf as I try to beef up my stats. Honestly, though, the artwork is simply amazing. It’s worth leveling up just to see the male and female varients of each werewolf type, as illustrated by Mark Hiblen. Ellen Page No Longer Involved in Teen Lesbian Werewolf Film

It’s a shame that I have to introduce this movie to the site by posting bad news about it. According to its IMDB page, Jack and Diane, which was to star Juno‘s Ellen Page, is about two teen lesbians who…

…meet in New York City and spend the night kissing ferociously. Diane’s charming innocence quickly begins to open Jack’s tough skinned heart. But, when Jack discovers that Diane is leaving the country in a week she tries to push her away. Diane must struggle to keep their love alive while hiding the secret that her newly awakened sexual desire is giving her werewolf-like visions.

Sounds interesting, right? Unfortunately, due to lack of funding and Ellen Page’s desire to protect her career’s rising star from colliding with controversy, Jack and Diane has run into trouble.
