“Into Werewolf Returns” by AbyssWolf

Being a web developer by trade, I normally hate animated GIF images with a fiery passion, but what AbyssWolf has accomplished in 252 small frames is nothing less than magnificent. It’s hard to imagine all the energy and detail of a werewolf transformation being captured in a pixel-based animation, but here it’s expressed with drama and motion to spare.

AbyssWolf hails from Madrid, Spain, and a browse around his DeviantArt gallery reveals an artist with an eye for detail and a truly impressive command of pixels. Be sure to check out the minotaur, the dragon and an earlier version of the werewolf transformation above. Many thanks to Tandemonium for spotting this one!

More Mezco Wolf Man Photos

Figures.com has posted some new photos of the 7- and 12-inch Mezco Wolf Man figures, including wicked-looking “bloody” variants of each. Mezco’s detail pages for these figures don’t include any info on the bloody versions, so I’m not sure when or how they’ll be made available, but rest assured, when I know, you’ll know. Of further note is Mezco’s ship dates for these: the 7-inch version now ships “mid to late October 2009″, probably to coincide with the film’s release date, but the 12-inch version apparently still ships in late April. I’m not sure if that’s an oversight or a deliberate decision, but in any case you can still pre-order both versions. Thanks for the tip, ArcLight.

The Hippest Werewolf on the Sweetest Shirt

The unstoppable ArcLight has alerted me to yet another werewolf t-shirt, this one by Toronto-based artists and art school graduates Rose Chang and Stephanie Drabik. Rose and Stephanie have formed Crywolf Clothing, and they’ve just launched their Spring 2009 line. Among the clever designs is what I can only describe as an extremely indie werewolf. While Matthew’s werewolf is out shredding his inflatable guitar, Rose and Stephanie’s werewolf is in the library, listening to Midlake and reading Hemmingway. I have to admit, I’m more of the Midlake type myself.

The shirt is available in men’s and ladies styles for $25 Canadian. You have absolutely no excuse to refrain from buying this shirt.

Another American Werewolf T-Shirt

Hot on the heels of Friday’s Slaughtered Lamb T-Shirt post comes this great find by ArcLight: another excellent American Werewolf in London t-shirt, this time from FEARWERX. It was added to their catalog three days ago and it’s already out of stock, but hopefully it’ll come back soon!

I’m really liking this design, especially Werewolf David and the wonderfully decomposed Jack.

The Wolfman 7″ Action Figure

ArcLight just sent in word that Mezco Toyz is now taking preorders for a 7″ Wolfman action figure. For $18.00 US, you can secure a figure that has “intense film accurate detail, 12 points of articulation, and sculpted clothing”. It ships in April 2009, just in time for the realease of the film. I don’t know about you, but I’ve already placed a preorder for this sharp little guy, and I’m seriously considering the 12″ version as well.

Irony: Sterling Silver Wolfman Cufflinks

Retail-Jeweller.com reports that English jewellery designer Stephen Webster has created a collection of ghoulish cufflinks to mark Halloween, featuring Dracula, Frankenstein’s Monster, and of course, the Wolfman. I was going to be a little more flippant about this, but I looked up Stephen Webster and the guy has made diamond encrusted scorpions. This is clearly a man who understands that jewellery does not have to be all about little silver dolphins and swans, and he should be encouraged, even if you’re not in the market for £250 sterling silver werewolf head cufflinks with red garnet eyes. Then again, if you’re in England, have some money burning a hole in your pocket, and really want to piss off all the vampires at the Halloween Ball this weekend, Webster’s monster cufflinks are available from department stores Harrods and Selfridges, and from the Stephen Webster boutique at 1a Duke Street, London.

Six Awesome Werewolves in Video Games

on Talbain I, for one, feel that vampires have always garnered way too much attention in the world of video games, and werewolves have subsequently been given the short end of the joystick. Alex and Mark of Diehard GameFAN agree with me, and have posted an article where they ask: Where Are All the Werewolves? They discuss six games that give lycanthropes their due, ranging from Altered Beast to The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Can anyone out there think of any other games where you play a werewolf?

Life-Size Werewolf Prop by Fantaxy

Mike of Fantaxy FX sent me a link to a YouTube video of his latest creation– a 180cm (6′) tall werewolf with articulated head and arm movements.

Pretty impressive! You can see more of Mike’s work at www.fantaxy.es, although you’ll need to be fluent in Spanish to get the most out of the site.

New Sonic Unleashed Trailer with Were-Hog Footage

As we’ve mentioned a few times before, the forthcoming Sonic The Hedgehog game, Sonic Unleashed, will feature a “night mode” where everyone’s favourite spiky blue mammal turns into a werewolf (referred to informally as a “were-hog”). Kotaku has posted a new trailer which features extensive footage of this style of game play. Werewolf Sonic moves slower than regular Sonic, but boasts some punishing physical combat moves, which seems like it might lend some balance to a game that otherwise looks like it consists largely of running as fast as you can through beautiful terrain. Check out the video below:

Say what you want about where Sega has taken the Sonic franchise in the last decade, but this looks pretty damned cool. As previously mentioned, Sonic Unleashed is being released for PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on November 18th 2008. An alternate version for the Wii will be released at the same time.
