If you just can’t get enough of Never Cry Werewolf, or if you weren’t able to catch it when it ran on SciFi, there’s good news! Amazon is accepting pre-orders for the movie’s September 16 release on DVD.

Believe it or not, there are werewolf movies other than “An American Werewolf in London”.
Never Cry Werewolf Available for Pre-Order
The Wolfman Official Site
The official site for Universal’s highly-anticipated remake of The Wolfman has appeared. At the moment it’s quite light on content, having only a Story page that gives a back-of-the-DVD-style synopsis of the plot, and an Image gallery that has three photos we’ve seen before, including the two (still completely excellent) photos of star Benicio Tel Toro in werewolf makeup. Yet despite its simplicity, the site is atmospheric and well-designed. I look forward to seeing it fill up with new content over the coming months.

Rob Zombie’s Werewolf Women to Get Their Own Comic
As reported on his blog and discussed by myriad other sources, Rob Zombie is planning a comic series based on Werewolf Women of the S.S., one of the trailers-for-fake-movies that ran with Grindhouse. There’s no other information available at the moment —no release date, publisher or artist— but as soon as that info becomes available, you know we’ll post it here schnell. Oh, and if you’d like to see the original (probably NSFW) trailer, here you go.
“The Wolfman” Preview at San Diego Comic-Con
If you’re lucky enough to be attending the San Diego Comic-Con on Friday the 25th, check out Hall H at 2:00 PM for a sneak peak at footage from The Wolfman, and a presentation from the film’s official werewolf-creator and special effects god, Rick Baker. From the SDCC site:
For its upcoming action-horror film The Wolfman, Universal will showcase new footage and a presentation from the title monster’s creator, six-time Oscar-winning special effects artist Rick Baker.
Wolf Lake Marathon on SciFi
If you’re a fan of the short-lived TV series Wolf Lake, you might want to get your DVR ready– SciFi is running a Wolf Lake marathon through July and into August. Starting July 16th, they’ll be showing every episode of the first (and only) season! Follow the Read More link for a full schedule, courtesy of ArcLight.
The Problem With Werewolf Movies
CHUD.com’s Jon Abrams waxes philisophical in a fantastic essay about why werewolf movies basically stink. He suggests (rightly, in my opinion) that while every genre, sub-genre and niche in film has its diamonds in the rough, werewolf movies are fundamentally lacking.
Every major strain of genre filmmaking, whether it be the war movie or the alien invasion/science fiction movie, the time travel movie or the samurai movie, the Western or the boxing movie or the comic book movie or the vampire movie – all these have their few-and-far-between classics that make sitting through all the more inferior efforts worthwhile. The exception is the werewolf movie.
Werewolf + Underwear = Sexy?
Roukas sent me this classic– a Japanese underwear ad. I think it speaks for itself.
Why isn’t marketing in North America as random and awesome as this?
Ellen Page No Longer Involved in Teen Lesbian Werewolf Film
It’s a shame that I have to introduce this movie to the site by posting bad news about it. According to its IMDB page, Jack and Diane, which was to star Juno‘s Ellen Page, is about two teen lesbians who…
…meet in New York City and spend the night kissing ferociously. Diane’s charming innocence quickly begins to open Jack’s tough skinned heart. But, when Jack discovers that Diane is leaving the country in a week she tries to push her away. Diane must struggle to keep their love alive while hiding the secret that her newly awakened sexual desire is giving her werewolf-like visions.
Sounds interesting, right? Unfortunately, due to lack of funding and Ellen Page’s desire to protect her career’s rising star from colliding with controversy, Jack and Diane has run into trouble.
John Landis Open to American Werewolf Remake
Is nothing sacred? As reported by Bloody Disgusting and others, John Landis, director of American Werewolf In London, confirmed at HorrorHound that he would be open to doing a remake of his classic 1980s werewolf film. Landis owns the rights to AWIL, and is apparently “in talks” with people to resurrect David, Jack and Nurse Price. I don’t know about you, but I think that’s a terrible idea. What do you think? Should AWIL be “re-imagined” for 21st century audiences? Post your opinions in the comments.
Werewolves Crave… Kentucky Fried Chicken?
You may have seen this trailer for a werewolf movie called Night Hunger floating around on YouTube recently. Grainy, scratchy film stock, wooden voice-overs, actors who all sound constipated, budget werewolf effects, buckets of gore– this has got to be a trailer for a trashy 1970’s grindhouse flick, right? Wrong.
