Tim Hope’s Short Film, “The Wolfman”

While cartoony and childish on the surface, this short feature is a frightening venture into the subconscious of the animal that is man. And please, be honest; there are likely a few people here who have thought something along the lines of: “I was sitting in my huge leather armchair watching telly, and thinking how marvelous it would be to be a werewolf.” Savor and enjoy!

McGinty & Hughes: Amateur Thespians

My favourite web comic, Scary Go Round, is coming to an end. Its creator John Allison intends to begin a new comic in its stead this September. He won’t divulge the new comic’s title or subject, and has been teasing his readers about it via his blog. Yesterday he posted this, along with the message “Without further ado, here for the first time I reveal: THE NEW COMIC. Oh hang on that isn’t it. Not at ALL.”

McGinty & Hughes by John Allison

John, why you got to play me like that?

Craig & The Werewolf: 5 Episodes of Werewolf Win

Okay, you’ve got to check out Absolute Disaster‘s five-episode web series “Craig & The Werewolf“. As this Tubefilter article puts it, the bite-sized series is about two “seemingly normal twentysomething roommates [who] are getting along fine until one of them gets outed as a flesh-eating werewolf.” Watch the first episode below, then visit Absolute Disaster’s blip.tv page to see the rest.

“Living Arrangements” Film Pits Vegans Against Werewolf

Living Arrangements is an independent film by director Sam Thompson about a pair of vegans who have to contend with a new roommate’s unorthodox eating habits.

Sasha and Billie just found a new apartment right next to their favorite coffee shops and thrift stores. Life couldn’t be better until they discover a blood-thirsty werewolf living in the attic. Coping with the uninvited roommate challenges their vegan lifestyle and may turn these animal savers into animal slayers.

Check out the trailer, and visit the official web site and blog for more info, including screening details and production stills (including some closeups of the werewolf costume).

Living Arrangements

Why are there so many fun werewolf indie films out there? Oh yeah, it’s because werewolves are fucking awesome. Nice work, Living Arrangements cast and crew. Put this out on DVD and I will buy three.

Werewolves on the Moon: Versus Vampires, Issue #1

Sometimes the only things necessary are a synopsis, an image and a link.

Through all of history, on the night of the full moon, the bloodcurdling cries of werewolves have pierced the night sky. For centuries, werewolves have had to content themselves with shortened forays of feral change as dictated by the source of their power — the moon! But all that is about to change as three werewolf friends — Ted, Jeff, and Stan, leave Earth and travel to the lunar surface in a quest to become kings of the moon! Unfortunately, Moon Patrol captain Maggie Pilgrim has other plans . . . as does the hive of vampires living on the dark side!

Oh heavens yes. From the creators of Star War: Clone Wars, Werewolves on the Moon: Versus Vampires issue #1 hits stores June 3rd. Check out a 5-page preview or place a pre-order here. (Edit: you can get the whole series in a trade now!)  Thanks for publishing stuff like this, Dark Horse.

The Top Five Worst Werewolf Book Covers Ever

Werewolf News is pleased to present this special report from jujitsu / River City Ransom sensation Mike Roukas.

There is a fine line between the intentional retardedness of Teen Wolf and the unwitting ineptitude of the JarJar Binks-era Star Wars movies. I regret to say that when it comes to making werewolf-related media, it’s very easy to cross that line and blast into uncharted dimensions of stupidity. The following are what I believe to be the top five aesthetic blunders in the wide, wide world of werewolf book covers. Please keep in mind that the cringe-inducing ineptitude of these covers doesn’t necessarily reflect the writing inside them, but it probably does.

Audie and The Wolf – The Chainsaw-Wielding Reverse Werewolf Movie

Last summer I posted about a werewolf-in-reverse film called Audie and The Wolf. At the time I think it had just got out of post-production, and the teaser was enough to intrigue me. Well, now it’s making the rounds at film festivals around North America, and if the trailer (posted below) is any indication, Audie and The Wolf is going to kick ass, Shaun of the Dead-style.

Audie is showing at Seattle’s True Independent Film Festival and the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Film Festival. Unfortunately, neither festival has posted a 2009 schedule, so I don’t have the exact dates for you, but as soon as they’re updated (and whenever new dates and locations are announced), you can see them here. In the meantime, check out the official web site for previous festival accolades, press photos and mailing list details.

Werewolf Bar Mitzvah

This is not new (it’s actually from October 2007), but I only just stumbled across it the other day, and with Hanukkah starting in less than a week, it’s marginally relevant. Wait, why am I rationalizing the fact that I’m posting this? It’s a novelty 1980’s-style hip hop song about Jewish werewolves, it’s from 30 Rock and the whole song is available as a free download from NBC. There is not a single thing about this situation that requires defending– just listen to it, and when you find yourself still singing the chorus under your breath eight hours later, you can thank (or curse) me.

Wheelchair Werewolf

ArcLight sent in this fake (but awesome) trailer by Joe Avella, for a handi-capable horror film called Wheelchair Werewolf.

If this site made any money, I’d put ArcLight on the payroll and task him with finding ridiculous stuff like this. “Almost no-one can escape… Wheelchair Werewolf!”

Wolfmen In The Closet: Fact or Fiction?

If you’re at all interested in video games, web comics, or things that are awesome, you’ll be familiar with Penny Arcade!, the ongoing adventures of two lovable, video game-obsessed misanthropes named Gabe and Tycho. Against all probability, Gabe and Tycho are fathers, and one of their recent comics addresses the tough decisions parents sometimes need to make in preparing their kids for the unknown. Specifically, the furred, fanged, closet-lurking unknown. This isn’t the first time werewolves have been referenced in Penny Arcade!, either– back in June, Tycho got caught up with some reading, and in February of 2007, there was some discussion about the myriad versions of Windows Vista out there. For what it’s worth, I wouldn’t run Vista even if there was a Wolfman Edition.
