It’s the best day of the year– Halloween! From all of us here at Werewolf News (okay, it’s just me, but you get the point), have a happy, safe and werewolf-centric Halloween! And don’t forget… Day of the Dead is coming up too!
Sinfest: Uncle Sam’s Little Problem
Tatsuya Ishida’s comic Sinfest is a Good Thing of the Internet. Today’s comic is relevant to those who like werewolves, democracy and exploiting the innocent masses like a slavering beast (or not). Note what happens to the stars on his hat when he transforms… nice touch, Tatsuya. Thanks to Jason Friesen for the link.
Irony: Sterling Silver Wolfman Cufflinks
Retail-Jeweller.com reports that English jewellery designer Stephen Webster has created a collection of ghoulish cufflinks to mark Halloween, featuring Dracula, Frankenstein’s Monster, and of course, the Wolfman. I was going to be a little more flippant about this, but I looked up Stephen Webster and the guy has made diamond encrusted scorpions. This is clearly a man who understands that jewellery does not have to be all about little silver dolphins and swans, and he should be encouraged, even if you’re not in the market for £250 sterling silver werewolf head cufflinks with red garnet eyes. Then again, if you’re in England, have some money burning a hole in your pocket, and really want to piss off all the vampires at the Halloween Ball this weekend, Webster’s monster cufflinks are available from department stores Harrods and Selfridges, and from the Stephen Webster boutique at 1a Duke Street, London.
Once In A Pink Moon…
If you’re a fan of werewolves and a writer of gay fiction, you might want to dig up those old manuscripts. QueeredFiction is a start up small press publisher that focuses on the Gay, Lesbian, & Bisexual ‘Genred’ market, and in early 2009 they’ll be publishing Queer Wolf – Once In A Pink Moon…, an anthology of gay werewolf tales. Right now they have an open call for submissions:
We’re looking for contemporary, urban fantasy set within a fictional city (unnamed and not location specific) centering on a community of queer werewolves. Your submission should be a short story between 4,000 and 10,000 words. We are seeking sensual fiction with positive images of gay/lesbian characters. We are not looking for clichés.
They are accepting submission until November 30th, and payment “will be through a royalty split between contributors”. For more information on what they’re looking for and how to submit your work, visit the Queer Wolf page of the QueeredFiction site.
Dougherty Comments on Werewolf “Bitches”
As we reported earlier this month, Michael Dougherty is planning a TV series for Fox about female werewolves. The show is tentatively entitled Bitches. Earlier this month, Dougherty spoke to ShockTillYouDrop.com about some of the more carnal motivations behind the show.
The funny thing is I have always had this weird obsession with female werewolves. Even going back to The Howling there’s that famous transformation sequence that Joe Dante did with the fire and lovemaking. To me that was indicative of female sexuality – all sexuality has this beastly side of it. If you’re a werewolf, it should just be another aspect of yourself you’re trying to deal with. You do want to explore those parallels of being a werewolf and human sexuality. How can you date and fall in love with someone when you’re a werewolf and you start to turn when you’re aroused?
Very interesting, Michael. Very interesting indeed.
HP’s Data Center Werewolf
I’m into IT and werewolves, but this is embarrassing.
See more of HP’s “HPMonsters” videos here. If you dare.
Is Ridley Scott Making a Werewolf Movie?
I sure hope so! As reported by Bloody-Disgusting and several other sites, famed director / producer Ridley Scott has just purchased an original werewolf-related script from screenwriter Ian Jeffers. Nothing else is known at this time, but there’s already speculation that Scott’s recent actor of choice, Russell Crowe, will star as the lycanthropic lead in whatever film this script turns into. Only time will tell.

Did The Town Pants Run Over a Werewolf?
I’m from Vancouver, BC, so even the tiniest mention of werewolfy activity in my city gets a mention on this site. Local rockers The Town Pants have just returned home from a 4-month tour of the United States, and they had a story for local (awesome) paper The Georgia Straight about a werewolf encounter in New York:
In the moonlight whatever it was was bigger than a dog, or a coyote. It was a large, hairy all over and yellowish. It might have been a wolf but I’ve never seen one up close and they’re not that big. It was as long as as a tall person. I’m certain this was a werewolf. But I didn’t want to get too close.
Get the full story here. It involves science!
If there’s an award for “weirdest post title”, I think I just won it.
Dead of Night Featuring Werewolf By Night
ShockTillYouDrop.com reports that Marvel‘s resurrected Dead of NIght miniseries will be taking a new 4-issue look at Werewolf By Night:
For 28 days of the month, Jack Russell leads a normal life. He’s got a beautiful wife and a baby on the way. He’s the picture of happiness. On day 29, however, he turns into an uncontrollable, bloodthirsty monster. But as the saying goes, the best-laid plans of wolves and men…
The first issue of Dead of Night Featuring Werewolf By Night hits comic shops everywhere January 7th 2009. It’s written by Duane Swierczynski and illustrated by Mico Suayan (who also created the cover image you see here). For more information, you might want to check out Duane’s blog; particularly this post, where he talks about his upcoming January releases. There’s also Mico’s DeviantArt page, which includes the pencils for the cover image (and an alternate version!) and a preliminary treatment for a werewolf design). Nice work, guys! Looking forward to picking this up in January.
