Trendy werewolf stuff for trendy werewolf people.

Werewolf Smashes Through Window, Injures Woman

Of course, the werewolf was on stilts at the time. Seriously. This was at Six Flags Great America’s Fright Fest, and the werewolf in question was a park employee in a costume that involved stilts. He tripped, possibly while avoiding a vampire on a scooter, and fell through the window of Antoine’s Ice Cream Parlor. According to the park’s public relations manager, Brooke Gabbert, one woman was taken to a local hospital and treated for a minor cut on her cheek, probably from the broken class.

The werewolf was apparently unhurt.

I can’t make this stuff up, folks. This is real life.

Alistair Darling is a Werewolf

The Spoof has an amusing article about the latest issue to rock Europe’s financial markets: England’s Chancellor of the Exchequer, Alistair Darling, is a werewolf. “Whilst being a werewolf does not lend itself naturally to managing the country’s economy,” The Spoof reports, “it has proven a good move in terms of security on Downing Street.”

The Young Werewolves Mash It Up With Cult Film Legend

The Young Werewolves are a band who blend the styles of rockabilly, psychobilly, surf, punk, garage and pop music into an infectious mix. They’re releasing their second recording, entitled Cheat The Devil, with cult film star Sid Haig as executive producer.

The actor, legendary for playing the hulking menace in many low-budget exploitation and high-priced action films, stands in as the title character on the CD’s artwork and transforms sonically into the role of ‘Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde’ halfway through the program of music. Sid has enjoyed a recent resurgence portraying the character ‘Captain Spaulding’ in Rob Zombie’s House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil’s Rejects.

Producer Andy Kravitz, who was also behind the board on the trio’s debut recording, crafted a listening experience that ranges from the depths of a mad scientist’s laboratory to the far reaches of outer space.

Cheat The Devil follows the Philadelphia-based trio’s self-titled debut released in 2004. Check them out at www.theyoungwerewolves.com and myspace.com/youngwerewolves.

A Fool’s Utopia – Column of the Werewolf

This week, a generous chunk of Ron Martin column A Fool’s Utopia is dedicated to werewolves he has known and loved. He feels that werewolves don’t get the exposure they deserve, particularly during the Halloween season:

While never completely ignored, I’ve always felt that the werewolf was a little underappreciated during the Halloween festivities. That’s what I’m here for. Are you ready? Let’s take a look at some werewolves who have invaded out pop culture in the last oh, 70 years or so.

Most werewolf fans won’t learn anything new, but it’s still certainly worth a read, especially for the editorial comments (yes, Ron, Oz was a lame-looking werewolf). I also need to give Ron some serious kudos for covering two of my favourite 1980s werewolf phenomena: Fruit Brute cereal and the Teen Wolf cartoon. Saturday mornings at their best!

“Woman Surprised By A Werewolf” on Display at the Walker Art Gallery

Woman Suprised by a Werewolf - Stuart Pearson Wright

Back in July, I mentioned Stuart Pearson Wright‘s painting “Woman Surprised By A Werewolf”, and I wanted to remind everyone that you can now see it for yourself at the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool, England.

Universal Studios to Show Wolfman Preview on Tram Ride

As several other sources have announced, Universal Studios Hollywood will be screening an exclusive preview of The Wolfman as part of its Terror Tram experience this Halloween. The Terror Tram, if you didn’t know, is a tram-based tour of “remote and menacing locations of Universal’s legendary backlot”, including sets from  Nightmare on Elm Street, Psycho and War of the Worlds. Built into the trams are LCD screens which will display the Wolfman preview, which may or may not be the trailer that was played at Comic Con earlier this year.

eBay Auction for Rob Zombie Wolf Boy Banner

Rob Zombie is auctioning off a “Lycane the Wolf Boy” banner used in the music video for White Zombie’s Electric Head Pt. 2. According to the auction description, it measures approximately 10 feet wide bt 4.5 feet tall, and comes with a certificate of authenticity signed by Mr. Zombie himself. The auction ends at 11:02:20 PDT on August 29th. If I had the money and the wallspace, you can bet I wouldn’t be posting about this auction here– I’d be bid-sniping to snag this thing myself! Thanks go to ArcLight for the tip.

UPDATE: The auction closed with a high bid of $1,025.00. Congratulations to the winner!

Wheelchair Werewolf

ArcLight sent in this fake (but awesome) trailer by Joe Avella, for a handi-capable horror film called Wheelchair Werewolf.

If this site made any money, I’d put ArcLight on the payroll and task him with finding ridiculous stuff like this. “Almost no-one can escape… Wheelchair Werewolf!”

Twilight – Breaking Dawn

Breaking DawnOkay. I wasn’t going to say anything about this, but there’s just way too much fuss to ignore. Author Stephenie Meyer is writing a group of books referred to as the Twilight Saga, which follows the story of teenager Isabella Swan and her interactions with various vampires and werewolves, all of whom live in a small town in Washington state. There are four books in the series so far: Twilight (after which the series is named), New Moon, Eclipse and the recently-released Breaking Dawn. There has been a great deal of excitement surrounding the release of Breaking Dawn, on par with the debut of the Harry Potter novels.

I’ve never read them, but they’re apparently a really, really big deal. I’m something of a skeptic when it comes to teen romance/horror novels, especially those with dreamy vampires and conflicted werewolves, but with Breaking Dawn getting reviewed by every other blog, magazine and news web site out there, and a Twilight feature film in the works, I get the feeling it would be unwise to ignore the series because of a few old prejudices.

Wolfmen In The Closet: Fact or Fiction?

If you’re at all interested in video games, web comics, or things that are awesome, you’ll be familiar with Penny Arcade!, the ongoing adventures of two lovable, video game-obsessed misanthropes named Gabe and Tycho. Against all probability, Gabe and Tycho are fathers, and one of their recent comics addresses the tough decisions parents sometimes need to make in preparing their kids for the unknown. Specifically, the furred, fanged, closet-lurking unknown. This isn’t the first time werewolves have been referenced in Penny Arcade!, either– back in June, Tycho got caught up with some reading, and in February of 2007, there was some discussion about the myriad versions of Windows Vista out there. For what it’s worth, I wouldn’t run Vista even if there was a Wolfman Edition.
