Gabriel Belmont is Going to Beat Up This Werewolf in “Castlevania: Lords of Shadow”

A. Quinton — Jun. 28th 2010

The recently announced Castlevania reboot “Castlevania: Lords of Shadow” for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 has got among its cast of enemies a kind of batty, kind of ratty werewolf. Would you like to see some grainy E3 2010 gameplay footage where Gabriel Belmont turns his foes (including a dramatically introduced werewolf) into clouds of blood? Here you go!

Would you like to see a giant render of the werewolf model, in all its leathery-textured glory? Well, my friends, we’re two for two! Click to embiggen.

Wow! Our snarly boys are always getting the short end of the stick, but at least they get it in style here! Anyway, the werewolves are indeed introduced in a creepy yet elegant fashion that suits them well.

With today’s improved graphics and controls, I think it would be great if Konami brought back Cornell, the werewolf Castlevania hero from the N64 days. In the right artistic hands, he could be amazing.

  • Viergacht

Nice, it looks like the werewolves from Underworld and Harry Potter had a baby together! XD

  • Werewolf? Looks more like a were-rat with the head structure and lack of fur. Also, I don’t know of any wolf/werewolf that has ears that long. It’s not completely awful but I’ve seen better…alot better.

  • ArcLight

Well…I suppose it’s the thought that counts. More ‘bunny ears’ on the werewolves, tho. Is it all THE HOWLING’s fault?

  • Holy cow, Shadowfang, timely post! That bear’s skin is grey, which resolves the confusion I was experiencing on Twitter earlier today. And I agree those ears are out of control.

  • Oh yes, I saw your twitter update. I’m @seancw, btw. We’ve conversed before. ;)

  • That hairless bear looks pretty intimidating!

  • Viergacht

Andrew, for shame! For some of us, brown IS skin color.

  • Yes, you’re right, Viergacht. If I’d had the room in that 140 characters, I could have said “Why is a werewolf’s skin colour usually a shade of grey or brown not typically found within the globally inclusive range of human skin tones?” However, you reveal your own political insensitivity and sense of male entitlement by not objecting to my exclusive use of the male pronoun in that tweet. Let’s just agree that if everyone was a vargr, skin color would be even more irrelevant and shit would be a lot cooler. :D

  • I played this at E3 this year, it was hands down one of my favorite games at E3. The art is not bad at all, I was not a big fan of how the werewolf looks either, but the warg you battle with was pretty cool. It plays like God of War, but retains that Castlevania feel, I can’t wait to see this game in its final form. I am a huge fan of the series, so it is interesting to see it go from platformer to beat-em up like this. Still a high res Castlevania is one of my dreams I would love to see come to fruition, let’s hope there is a turn in the tides that allows Konami to make one!

  • ArcLight

Awww….poor bear. I bet the other bears all make fun of her.

  • Viergacht

But Andrew, I was assuming a female werewolf would be so incredibly badass you’d never get close enough to her to employ a razor ;)

And thanks for the sop to my enormous ego.

  • You win this battle, Viergacht, but the war… wait. We’re on the same side! Let me buy you a beer.
