…meet in New York City and spend the night kissing ferociously. Diane’s charming innocence quickly begins to open Jack’s tough skinned heart. But, when Jack discovers that Diane is leaving the country in a week she tries to push her away. Diane must struggle to keep their love alive while hiding the secret that her newly awakened sexual desire is giving her werewolf-like visions.
Sounds interesting, right? Unfortunately, due to lack of funding and Ellen Page’s desire to protect her career’s rising star from colliding with controversy, Jack and Diane has run into trouble.
The film was to be directed by Bradley Rust Gray and released in 2010, but according to New York Magazine’s interview with Olivia Thirlby (who was to play Jack to Ellen Page’s Diane), lesbian werewolves aren’t the right thing for Page’s career right now.
“I mean, it’s half-animated and nonlinear and Ellen’s in a very high place right now and there’s just too much focus on her and her career for her to be able to go off and do some super-experimental flick.”
Yes, you’re right. She’s clawed her way out of obscurity by starring in such gems as Trailer Park Boys, Hard Candy and X-Men: The Last Stand. Most recently she became an icon for teen pregnancy in Juno. We certainly wouldn’t want to tarnish her career with anything as tacky as controversy, would we?
