High Moon

Saturday, May 31 – 11:05 PM

A comic featuring werewolves in an Old West setting? A werewolf anti-hero who hung out with Abe Lincoln and sports sideburns that make Logan look like a 14-year-old? If this sounds like your kind of thing, allow me to direct you to High Moon, an ongoing web comic by David Gallaher and Steve Ellis. Fantastic art (amazing werewolves!) and an interesting, well-paced story make High Moon well worth checking out.

Chelsea Quinn Yarbro on Werewolves

Tuesday, May 27 – 9:05 PM

Blogcritics Magazine has published a lengthy interview with Chelsea Quinn Yarbro, the prolific author behind the Saint-Germain series– historical horror fiction about vampires. I’ve never read any of her books, but she has some interesting things to say about the depiction of werewolves in fiction.

Offical “Wolfman” Plot Synopsis

Monday, May 19 – 11:05 AM

Shock Till You Drop has apparently got the scoop on the “official” plot synopsis for The Wolfman. No surprises, but it’s nice to see they haven’t fluffed it up with a lot of silly Hollywood chintz.

Tor Posthumously Publishes Slain Officer’s Werewolf Novel

Tuesday, May 13 – 8:05 AM

Quite a few news sites are talking about today’s publication of The Wolfman, a werewolf novel penned by a New York City volunteer police officer who was killed in the line of duty. Tor Books gave author Nicholas Pekearo word in March 2007 that his novel about a detective who dispenses lethal lycanthropic justice had been accepted for publication. Just four days later, Pekearo and his partner Eugene Marshalik were shot and killed by David Garvin, a gunman fleeing the scene of another murder.

Ninja Gaiden II Lycanthope Pictures

Friday, May 9 – 3:05 PM

Ninja Gaiden II, the sequel to 2004’s Ninja Gaiden for the Xbox, contains werewolves. Lots of them. In fact, one might infer from the available screenshots that the game’s main activity consists of decapitating lycanthropes as flamboyantly as possible, with requisite Monty Pythonesque gouts of blood. Yet despite their disposable nature, the lycanthropes in Ninja Gaiden II seem to have a great deal of care and attention to detail in their design. Here are two particularly noteworthy images from GameSpy and IGN.

“Beast” Photos and Trailer

Friday, May 9 – 1:05 PM

German horror filmmaker Timo Rose recently sent Fangoria some exclusive photos of his forthcoming werewolf film, Beast. No werewolf shots, but plenty of gore. Also available is the official trailer, which is definitely worth checking out- lots of action, atmosphere, dark humour, and a bit of werewolf transformation. I sincerely doubt Beast will see theatrical release here in North America since it’s not a braindead romantic comedy or an American remake of a Japanese horror film, but I’m still going to do my best to track it down when it comes out.

Visit the offical Beast MySpace (ugh) page here for more trailers and photos.
